"Hardly world-shattering, Brady Bunch Hour nevertheless qualified as
painless entertainment, embellished with underwater ballets and a rock group (Kaptain Kool & the Kongs) for additional scope — as judged by young
people's standards." — Variety, January 26, 1977

Why would anyone want to revive The Brady Bunch in a variety format? The characters here are the same as in the series (with a new actress playing daughter Jan) but the Bradys have left the suburbs for a southern California beach house, where they practice becoming TV stars (the only logical career for a Californian). Along with the squeaky clean Brady family antics, there are singers, dancers, and comedy sketches. Even fans of the original series will be hard-pressed to stay tuned for this one.

This was an attempt to revive The Brady Bunch comedy of the early 1970's, in hour-long format. The original cast returned intact except for Eve Plumb, who was replaced by Geri Reischl as Jan. The format now contained more variety than situation comedy, as father Mike had given up his career as an architect so that the family could star in their own TV variety show. The setting also changed, to a new beachfront home in California, and a group called the Water Follies Swimmers made regular appearances.
